About Us

Welcome to the online home of Werff Beagles!  We are a small hobby kennel located about 20 miles north west of Grand Rapids, MI.  I, Alyssa, along with my husband, Jeff, live on a 10 acre farm along with our “pack” of Beagles.  Dogs have always been a part of our lives in one way or another.  I entered the dog show world through my experience in 4-H with my ever-faithful companion, Sassy, a mixed breed dog we adopted after she had been abandoned by her owner.  Sassy led to acquiring my first purebred dog, a liver, German Shorthaired Pointer named Hero.  Throughout my experiences with the shorthairs I have had the opportunity to meet many wonderful people and learn about proper care, presentation and training of my dogs as well as responsibility, compassion, communication and sportsmanship.

After earning my Bachelor of Science degree at Michigan State and marrying my wonderful husband Jeff, I decided that I wanted to take my interest in purebred dogs in a different direction.  I was fortunate enough to connect with one of the most renowned breeders in the Beagle world, Julie Wright of Just-Wright Beagles.  Bravada (CH Just-Wright Bravada RN) came to MI in the fall of 2007.  Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, you get a Beagle and find that the fun has just begun!  Vada has been the light of our life with her wonderful personality and sweet out going nature.  Bravada was campaigned in the breed ring during 2008 and she earned her Rally Novice (RN) title the end of that year also.  I have learned so much through Vada and eagerly look forward to what lies before me!  I am forever grateful to Julie for sending me Vada and for acting as a wonderful mentor while I make my way on this journey!

All of our puppies and dogs are raised as a part of our family.  Years of planning go into each litter.  The parents undergo all health testing recommended by the National Beagle Club as well as receive regular veterinary attention to ensure that they are physically health enough to reproduce.  Puppies are socialized beginning early on and will have dew claws removed (for safety reasons) and be vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped (including enrollment into AKC Companion Animal Recovery service) and registered with the AKC before leaving our home.

Please enjoy looking through our website!  If you have any questions or would just like to chat, please feel free to send me an email!
